Kirby Kaiser: A Little Longer

By Odeisel

The hood is probably not checking for Doo Wop, whether it’s the corner or the cul de sac. At least that was true before people like Bruno Mars and Janelle Monet brought some dynamism and energy to a genre that died with Frankie Lyman. It’s cool for barbershop quartets, but is there still a place for it in the modern music landscape? 20 year old Kirby Kaiser does, and her latest track, “A Little Longer,” is a fairly somber version of the old shoo be doo.

The composition is a little somber for doo-wop but the swinging elements are still there, albeit mood muted. It’s flush with all of those hug me, never let me go themes that made that genre cool during its heyday, but this composition drags emotionally; lacking that snap and the potent bounce of Doo Wop.

It’s not bad though and the song was arranged and written by Kirby. If you dig that Dreamy sound that’s slowly bubbling on the edges of pop, then you’ll probably really dig this. Either way, rock “A Little Longer” with it and you may dig it.
