The Firing Squad:Miguel Matters, Police Wilding, Football Rules

By Odeisel

“Real journalism is publishing something someone else does not want published – the rest is just public relations.” George Orwell

With so much drama in the world today in our communities on both macro and micro levels, it’s always strange to see the news or people who claim to be journalists talking about all kinds of silly things and never what’s going on. The Firing Squad is here to take aim at all that is wrong with the world, starting with our own communities. Three men of color with no censor and no objectives but truth, justice and common sense. Each episode will deal with hot-button issues with honesty, straight talk, and humor whenever possible . No personality is untouchable, and no one is spared the venom, or the praise whenever fit.

Is Miguel the last saving grace of male R&B? He’s talented and putting in the work, can he turn the genre around? Is his style a throwback to good old-fashioned non rapper based Rhythm and Blues? Is it a reflection of the sad state of R&B that an album without all that rap stuff stands out even before you hear it?

We look at the return of the refs to the NFL. Is Football more important that politics and society? Why do people care more about a ref strike than a referee lockout? How long will the love affair with the old refs last? How much of the outrage is tied to gambling? Is this more proof of Pro Football as the supreme American sport?

Are the police really out of control? Are they the biggest gang there is? What will it take for the police to respect the lives of the community? How far have their powers expanded beyond the original intent? Would you ever get a song like “Cop Killer” or “Black Cop” or any sort of movement in the HIp-Hop mainstream against police brutality?

We talk about Kreayshawn’s release unable to move 5000 units and compare the number of Twitter followers to album purchasers. What does this say about the market? Did she miss her moment? Did she drop at the wrong time?
