It’s Your Birthday So Tony Yayo Wants To Get You Drunk In This Bish

By TJ Love

Is the house that Fitty built back? From the sounds of things, G-Unit’s slow burn of quality material lately is on the way to becoming a full blown conflagration.  Mr. “I Know You Don’t Love Me”, Tony Yayo, adds some fuel to the flames with his Jahlil Beats produced cut “100 Bottles”.  While not as energetic and raucous, Yayo’s new banger is kindred spirits with 50’s “In Da Club” and “On the Double”, from his G-Unit cohort’s Lloyd Banks stellar lp “The Hunger for More Pt. II”.

“100 Bottles” is a call to arms for all alcoholic cats with a propensity to shut down the bar. It’s got a menacing baseline and snappy snares as the foundation and some disorienting background effects.  As a whole it reminds you of the times in the club where you didn’t know whether to keep doin’ your thing on the dance floor or take your sloppy ass home.  The echoing chorus is eponymous to the title of the song: “ If its your birthday get drunk in this bitch.  And it’s my birthday I had too many drinks. Tell ‘em send a hundred bottles”.  “100 Bottles” is Tony Yayo at his swagged out, free associating finest, and while he’ll never be confused for Rakim he’s got some nice wordplay and funny lines. “Money ain’t a thing/ six figure pinkie ring/ my eyes Chinese/ I’m on point like Lin”.

G-Unit may never return to their former glory days but the truth is, Fitty’s protégés make better music when they’re not the undisputed hottest crew in the game.  Hopefully, Yayo and Banks can serve as examples for Fif to get hungry again and start producing that uncompromising G-Unit material that put their clique in the spotlight in the first place.
