And The Beat Goes On: James Blake Gets Beat Down

By shelz.

And the beat goes oooooon.  And the beat goes oooooooon.  The beat goes. Word to Sonny & Cher.

Before we get to the remix mania that is today’s edition, I really have to suggest something to the girls of the world.  Will Smith once said we ain’t nothing but trouble.  I usually don’t agree, but the last week or so has played right into Will’s evil plan to expose us as problem children.  I really need all of y’all to put the claws away before someone gets hurt.  Between Neon Deon’s family, Aunt Viv, John Legend’s fiance and all that lady nonsense surrounding Chris Brown; we are drowning in cattiness.  Whatever it is that has your drawers all in a twist, get over it.  On with the show.

First up is a really awesome remix of Beyonce’s “End of Time” by Monsieur Adi.

The song was already dance worthy and Adi removed that great bassline, but this is still a winner.  Its clubby without being obnoxious and Adi does a great job with the vocal samples so they don’t sound all chopped up and ragged.  I could shake my tail feather to this.

Next is The Kills take on Velvet Underground’s “Pale Blue Eyes.”  It’s rocked up and hippied down, but I prefer Lou Reed in the lead.  The changes to the foundation though are great, especially the fuzzed out strings.  Very nice.

Moving on we have Lee Bannon taking his turn with Bilal’s “Who Are You.” It’s great foggy, distorted goodness like you’re listening to the song in a dream.  Lee Bannon is proving himself as someone to watch.  So keep your eyes open.

Next is Deadmau5 with not a remix but the original unreleased mix of “Maths.”  It’s weird and squeaky, but strangely fascinating.  Take a listen.

Last we have M-Phazes reworking James Blake’s “I Never Learnt to Share.”  He adds some structure to the original that rambles on without a real destination.  The drums are dope, but he removes Blake’s lyrics so if you’re not down with instrumentals this isn’t for you.
