SOPA and PIPA: What Happened? And What Now?

We’re BAAAAAACK.

If you hadn’t heard of SOPA and PIPA before yesterday, I’m sure you are aware now.  Thousands of websites, big and small, denied access to their pages to bring attention to two incredibly ambigous bills snaking their way through the hallowed halls of Congress.  The bills have a legitimate cause to stop rampant piracy, but are written poorly enough that they could leave open plenty of room to impact non-pirating, perfectly legal websites.

Planet Ill hipped you to this months ago and has been doing its little part since then to communicate to law makers and web users around these parts that we’re not down with that plan.  For the crinkley-faced doubting Debbies who like to throw shade on people with any sort of positive agenda, know that we are doing this for you too.

Will it work?  Who knows?  But at the end of the day no one can say the Hip-Hop web world sat on its ass too indifferent or jaded to ignore it.  Even if participation was last minute, misdirected or uninformed, it’s nice to see folks doing more than giving lip service.  Bravo to you all.

If you care, keep up. According to the great folks over at fightforthefuture.org the number of Senators publicly opposing PIPA has jumped from 5 to 35 which is of course an encouraging sign.  If you’re still confused, want some additional information or would like to know what you can do from here, contact them.  They will be more than happy to speak with you.  Planet Ill will.

Anyhow folks, enjoy the content and your day.
