Jean Grae Takes A Step Closer to Cakin’ With U&Me&EveryoneWeKnow

By shelz.

Jean Grae said not too long ago that Cake Or Death would not get a release date until it was perfect.  This I can deal with, but perfection can be time consuming and my patience has never been virtuous.  However, if  “U&Me&EveryoneWeKnow” is any indication of how her snail’s pace has affected the music.  I’ll grin and bear it.

“You&Me&EveryoneWeKnow” is a warm wash of nostalgia that combines Grae’s musical lineage and producer M-Phazes love for all things soulful. It’s ethereal and loungey with just enough of a Hip-Hop bent to make you realize you aren’t in a jazz club.  Early 90’s Tribe ribbons through with a bit of homage to Phife “Buggin Out” and strings that control emotion like a master puppeteer.  Is my stan showing up this early in the year?  Yup.

Grae is mulling over a relationship, but with who? Some dude or the entirety of a community that doesn’t show her as much love as they should.  It’s not like this would be the first time she explains the rap world as a bad boyfriend. Take a listen and you decide.

Cake Or Die is taking forever, but I’ll stop whining and wait. It’s going to be worth it.  I’ll even accept how difficult this title is to type because “U&Me&EveryoneWeKknow” is the perfection Me&EveryoneIKnow have been waiting for.
