Stalley Keeps It Smooth With Latest Ski Collaboration, Gentleman’s Quarterly

By Odeisel

Ski Beatz behind the boards has been nothing short of magical these last three years, shepherding a slew of up and coming artists into the live instrument lane and bringing out the best in then, most notably currency. His approach is having similar results with Ohio rapper Stalley, and while the bearded one has taken up residence in the Maybach camp, he can always go home again. “Gentleman’s Quarterly” is the result of his latest trip home and as usual, Stalley has a helluva video to back it up.

Shot entirely in black and white, the video has a certain serenity, melding the natural aspects of lakes crickets, grass and greenery paired with the refined life that a gentleman leads. The house is adorned with rich woodwork and glassware; fireplaces with roaring flames, large windows bathing the room in sunlight and mentions of Monte Blanc and Maker’s Mark conjure the image of the lush life.

Stalley defines himself as America’s nightmare in a wicker chair” again melding opposing imagery . His energy remains consistent throughout, even on the chime accented breaks, never breaking stride or missing beat when the bassline returns and enlivens the track. This song is just an exquisite composition, another feather in the cap of Ski Beatz. You can drive alone in your car on a midnight cruise, smoke a cigar and sip cognac or clean your house to this. Or you can sit back and read the latest edition of “Gentleman’s Quarterly.”
