Rick Ross had his grind come to a halt when he suffered a couple seizures a few weeks ago. Since then he’s hopped back on the horse and continued his impressive run. Seems he’s got a mixtape coming, to prep us for his freshly pushed back album, God Forgives, I Don’t. His latest lyrical exercise is a mashup verse on the title track from Rihanna’s “Talk that Talk.”The song wasn’t all that great to begin with, but it has the prerequisite star power necessary for blogosphere and radio dickriderism. Jay-Z drops his repetitive money talks I’m talking shtick while dropping feint allegory to sex. It’s not as weak as some of the stuff he’s dropping these days, but it seems we’re firmly entrenched in the era of Sleepwalk Jay.

What is there to say about Rihanna’s devolution? Sex sells and she’s got a lot for sale. It’s sad to see the good girl gone bad motiff taken so far, particularly when it is playing out so publicly. I have no interest in seening Death of a Salesman.

The beat is typical of radio songs like this, complete with synth and snare drum patterns and a catchy hook. Bauce’s addition elevates the song to slightly above meh but that’s about it. Mixtape fodder is exactly where this belongs.
