Fashawn: Generation F

By shelz.

Is dope production the theme of the day?  Next up is Fashawn, one of California’s dopest native sons, with “Generation F.”  This song is scheduled for formal release on Champagne and Styrofoam Cups coming next year, but the sneak peak is definitely appreciated.

A great bassline and east going percussion anchor the track as the intermittent keys and strings twist above the bottom.  There isn’t much else there save the female backup vocals, but it doesn’t need anything else.

Fashawn starts out with a little Jigga homage via “Best of Me.” Yall don’t know abrasive tags until you know a Clue tag, but that’s not here nor there.  Fashawn shares some tales of his past.  Drug sales and gun toting in his adolescence led to a desire to write his name on pop culture.  Skipping school was the normal but he ended up as an XXL freshman.  How’s that for full circle?

This track is short sweet and great mixtape fodder.  I hope ya’ll aren’t still sleeping on this dude.  He deserves your attention.  “Generation F” bitches. Enjoy.
