You know we’re coming to a point of a paradigm shift when the edgier rappers are white and the edgier rockers are black. It ain’t exactly there yet, but rockers, the Knux are dropping vid after vid representing what rock used to be: hardcore, badass, booze-drinking, smoke-blowing, chick-banging, guitar-toting motherfuckers. Their latest video, “Razorblade” is endemic of that aesthetic as the duo are bathed in black &white, rolling through Skid Row, reeking of cigarette smoke, stained with champagne and fighting of the hangover demons of another rowdy night.

There’s flesh, pillows, and panties, with bubbly popped not in a club with models, but with line snorting hotties back at the hotel; a seedy hotel at that. The kind of women you know are no good for you but skank to guys = flame to moth. I digress. These guys have that charisma that draw you into their world and the kind of raggedy 5 o’clock shadowed, yet sneakily well-coiffed visage that speaks to both scoundrel and sizzle. That razorblade edge is what the track and the vid is all about.

The Knux aren’t exactly Motley Crue, but they don’t have to be. What they are is an authentic rock group with a significant new era Hip-Hop edge and their momentum is increasing by the song. Rock is back to the gutter; “Razorblade” on the inside of your cheek gutter. Feel it.
