Lou Reed & Metallica: Lulu Trailer

By shelz.

Wow. Wow. Wow.

Of course after seeing this trailer, you can’t help but to think of the uproar engendered by the album cover.  UK Undeground banned it, allegedly for looking too much like graffiti.  Around the same time, feminist writers blasted the rock conglom for the violent/misogynistic undertones the image expressed.  Well, those undertones unearth themselves furiously in the trailer.

The hullabaloo actually plays right into the projects hands.  The “dismembered” mannequin is now in full flower for all to see.  Her bloody face and naked body flicker through the minute and some change long video as Reed again tells us he wants to see her on the floor, or in a coffin or wherever his twisted mind puts her.

As a woman and a fan of controversial art, I’m torn.  I know this project is based on Wedekind’s Lulu plays that touched on the themes of abject lust and lack of mores during a time when it was way more sensational than it is now.  I’m a bit mortified by the whole thing, but I plan to listen anyway.  I guess that’s their point.

Well, here is the trailer. I don’t know about Lou Reed, but Metallica sounds as hard edge and kick ass as ever.  Umm.. Enjoy?

Oh.  Where is Tegan?
