Lou Reed & Metallica: Lulu – The Sampler

By shelz.

The response to this project isn’t what I anticipated, but this is really one interesting concept.  Maybe that’s my belief because I’ve read Wedekind’s work, so I’m familiar with the Lulu character.  Maybe it’s because I was the only little black girl in late ’80s Baltimore trying to sing “Harvester of Sorrow” at the school talent show. (They wouldn’t let me.)  Or because I can set “Sweet Jane” to repeat with no desire to change it hours later. Whatever the reason, I’m hyped.  And you should be too.

Taking Lulu, an ambiguous, unprincipled character who is seen as everything from homicidal femme fatale to a victim of intolerable abuse and fleshing her out, I’m sure was no easy task.  Finding the appropriate back beat to guide her journey from predator to prey probably took some serious consideration.  From listening to the snippets, it sounds like the crew made it happen though.  On October 31st, we will know for sure.

So take a listen to the sampler below to get an idea of what the project is about and let us know what you think.
