Snow Tha Product: Supply And Demand

Planet Ill: Tell me what it felt like the first time you looked from a stage and you felt those lights and you performed and you heard people cheer? What does that feel like?

Snow Tha Product: Well that’s the thing. I’ve been doing that for so long. When I was like 7 or 6 I my elementary there was this fair thing with mariachi and Spanish music or whatever and I went up to the violin player and asked if I could sing and they actually let me in front of the whole  elementary, parents  and all kind of stuff; it was like a fair. And I did it and it was crazy because there was no stage and everything and people were cheering me and getting closer to me and asking me a whole bunch of stuff. So I think that was the moment when I really knew. It felt crazy especially as a kid and I really wanted to do it and later on in life when I first did it for Hip-Hop I was like 16 or 17 and it was that exact same feeling and I just knew that that’s what I wanted to do with my life.

Planet ill: What did your parents say about that?

Snow Tha Product: Well my mom she just speaks Spanish so she’s not really into rap. She’s a traditional Mexican lady so she’s not really into it but she supports it and she knows that obviously I must be doing something right if stuff is going the right way. And also I’ve done stuff in Spanish so she can understand the stuff that I do or whatever. She just says go for it. She just knows since I was little I used to sing and all that. She wishes I would sing more but hopefully we’ll get there sometime.

Planet Ill: De donde tu eres?

Snow Tha Product: Yo soy de California and my parents are from Mexico. I was born here raised halfway Mexico, halfway here. Went to kindergarten over there came back and I went to third grade over there, then I came back. Then I would go every summer like the full summer like as soon as school would get out I was over there for like three months and then came back. I’m very aware of the lifestyle in Mexico and everything.

Planet Ill: Was there ever a culture clash?

Snow Tha Product: Culture shock? I think in the beginning maybe that’s hwy in high school and middle school maybe I felt different because I was raised a little different than most people so I think it was just kinda hard transitioning back and forth from full speaking Spanish and the traditional ways over there and then you come over here and people are a little bit more, especially in my school, they were a little more superficial I think over some stuff. I didn’t’ always have the newest clothes or the newest stuff and we  couldn’t really afford it so that’s the only real culture shock.

When it comes to music I think that was a little easier cause it’s music; if it’s good it’s good.

Planet Ill: Why Snow?

Snow Tha Product: I don’t really like being out in the sun too much. It’s hot and sweaty and nasty, so I’m pretty pale, so that’s where it came from. Oh you’re pale for a Mexican girl. Not necessarily you’re white. If I was white then I’m just white for all white people but for a Mexican girl I was pale or whatever; I need a tan.

So my friends were making fun on me and they would be like you should be Snow White, cause we wanted to belittle princess things or whatever And I should be snow white because she has black hair. That’s really all it came from. Disney had a problem with it so I just took the snow.

Planet Ill: The mouse is gonna get that bread no matter what. What do you love about this life?

Snow Tha Product: I love the lifestyle and I love the fact that…this is something that kinda just naturally.. I don’t know, I can’t say what made me want to do this but what makes me keep wanting to do this is the satisfaction that I feel from little things Writing a song to me is easy; it’s not extremely difficult. S something as easy as writing a song and putting it out there and expressing my feelings and my emotions can cause so much reaction from people, whether they hate it or they love it, I’m causing a reaction in a lot of people at the same time from something that took me 30 minutes to make.

It’s crazy; it’s like a cool way not everybody gets that opportunity so it feels awesome to be able to do it. And also the fact that I don’t have to go to a 9-5. I’ve always been very against all that and I don’t want to go do a regular job and hate my life. I want to do whatever I want to do along with the people that I love. So I’ve been able to thank God give them positions   to where they don’t have to do the regular thing; they can chill with me we work together and it’s fun. That’s what I love about it. I get to hang out with the people that I love all day, every day and just do cool stuff.

Planet Ill: When was the last time music broke your heart?

Snow Tha Product: The state of music and the music industry broke my heart; I don’t think music has ever broken my heart. Music itself doesn’t really ever hurt anyone. The music industry and the state that we’re in right now and the mentality that people have that listen to this genre of music. That’s hurt me a lot because I feel that it’s really sad that certain people react to stuff I say or just me you know, the way I look or whatever, it’s sad that people aren’t ready for there to be different races and different people in it.

That’s all that really is. Sometimes it’s like dang some people really haven’t understood that we’re supposed to be smarter than that and we’re supposed to be better than just segregating each other. We’ve come a long way and it’s crazy because to some people, we really haven’t moved much.
