IllSide Radio: Rolling Stone Crowns Eminem King Of Rap?

By Odeisel

The Planet, along with Chicago’s own SquareOne of B-Side Radio, have joined forces to bring you the week in review in Hip-Hop and current events, along with the occasional special guest and some music to keep you moving through your day. This week on IllSide Radio, we take a short look at Royce Da 5’9”’ album Success Is Certain release and
Ace Hood’s Blood Sweat & Tears album.

We look at the recent Rolling Stone article that recently anointed Eminem the King of Hip-Hop and look at the metrics they used and what it means. We take a look at their formula and question whether Rolling Stone has the cultural credibility to determine a “king” of Hip-Hop, and whether a rap magazine would have the ability to crown a king of rock.

Once we got to the bottom of Rolling Stone’s rationale we  look at the validity of that designation. Does sales and popularity have that much to do with being a “king” of rap music? What cultural and skill components should be included in a legitimate determinant of a true King? Should they have been included? Does Rolling Stone’s honesty and transparency for their rationale allow for a pass? How does their method stack up against amorphous titles like the “hottest” rapper lists that brought much criticism in recent history?

Odeisel and Gabe get to the bottom of all this and more, on this edition of IllSide Radio.

So sit back, relax and take a ride on the ill side.
