The odds of a Nigerian-born, Boston-raised artists even managing to get some shine in the entertainment business is rare. Last year, Planet Ill was lucky enough to be exposed to the talented Iyeoka, whose album SAY YES was a stellar mixture of poetry, spoken word, soul music and more, encompassing themes of relationships, introspection, love and struggle.
This time around, the Planet is first on the bandwagon and it is our pleasure to premiere the visuals for Iyeoka’s latest song “Testify.” The track has elements of world music as well as reggae, giving it a global feel-good vibe tinged with a dash of sexual tension, accentuated by the video’s deep purple hues wrapped in darkness. The vocals on the chorus are delivered in a faint echo that gives way to her soft-brushed account of how the dance floor can alleviate your troubles. Electric guitars, an island-flavored bassline and wah wah guitars collaborate to create an upbeat vibe.
Iyeoka will be performing in the Los Angeles area in a couple of weeks, so make sure you check out her vibe and report back to us. Let us know how you felt. For now, watch the video and “Testify” to the quality of her music.

The song’s better than the video but… Good, good I’ve enjoyed it! Iyeoka plays strings of my soul 🙂
