What’s good Planet Ill crew!

It’s time again for your weekly Indiesent Exposure installment of FREE quality music downloads and info about independent music artists of different genres who deserve serious credit for keeping things lively and original.

Post by post, Indiesent Exposure is set to give your ears some temporary respite from some of the daily audio wackness, boredom and/or iCoonery that bombards the masses through the mainstream radio and TV airwaves’ definitions of Hip-Hop, Rock, Soul, Funk, Jazz, Rock, Reggae, House, World Music and more.

If you like what you hear & download up in this section, PLEASE support (monetarily and otherwise) these artists as much as you can in the future – hit up their websites, purchase some product, go to their shows, etc.

This week’s group of great Indiesent Exposure audio selections features some recent tunes with Hip-Hop, R&B and Afro-Punk head nod flavors.

Whenever you have the chance, please let all of the talented Indiesent Exposure artists and the Planet Ill crew know what you think of the music in our comments section!

Here we go:

The “I’m A Rockstar” line in the music industry is as cliche as ___________ being better than sliced bread and having hoes in different area codes. It’s pretty rare to see an artist live up to that description, whether it’s in the freedom of going hard with unadulterated creative expression or just truly being out there and not following the “I’m SOOOO outrageous 101” PR manual for attention.

California’s Murs is definitely a true Hip-Hop Rockstar.

Since hitting the independent Hip-Hop scene back in 1997, the MC has released a string of solid solo and collaboration albums and singles with folks like 9th Wonder, the Definitive Jux and Living Legend Crews, Slug of Atmosphere, Nottz, Will.I.Am, Oh No, Snoop Dogg and more.

Energetic and versatile on the mic, Murs consistently keeps things nicely balanced with both diverse flows and subject matter that doesn’t reach the extreme danger zones of pandering or preachiness.

Along with DJ Foundation, Murs recently dropped the free 16 track Murs World 2011 Winter/Spring Sampler, which mixes new mid-to-high tempo tracks from his current album with producer/MC Terrace Martin (Melrose) and the upcoming solo project Varsity Blues 2.

Flowing effortlessly over a crazy organic mix of Jazz, R&B, low rider Funk, Electro and Hard Rock-sampled production and live music, Murs keeps his authenticity in check with this project while having something for everyone to mellow out or party to.
A sign of a Rock Star on the decline is when eventually people become bored with everything they do. Their antics put people to sleep. We’re far from that stage of things with Murs who still pushes boundaries. Cop his sampler & drop some change for the full-length audio main courses as they come along. Listeners shouldn’t be disappointed.

Murs & Terrace Martin – Fresh Kicks

Respect, prayers and condolences to all who are dealing with the earthquake & tsunami tragedy in Japan as of the writing of this article and beyond. On a personal note, here is a great search engine via Charity Navigator to find well respected organizations that is helping out over there + other places of the world that you may want to put your money, time, etc. towards.

Also respect due, prayers and condolences to the family, friends and fans of Nate Dogg, the man whose smooth, steely singing voice and hardcore music hooks truly made 1990s West Coast Hip-Hop the juggernaut it became via Death Row Records and beyond. There was a reason why HE was the closer for songs like Dr. Dre’s “The Last Episode”, Warren G’s “Regulate”, 50 Cent’s “21 Questions” and way too many joints to mention.

EVERYONE knew when Nate Dogg was on the scene, his part would be what you remembered. His hooks were that final layer of cement that held songs together. Musicians coasting on autotune singing isn’t any fun.Nate Dogg’s hooks made sure all the homies with headphones had some. Rest in Peace Brother.
