And The Beat Goes On: Jon Connor Has A Moment, Peedi Has ADD And The Bad Rabbits Have A Sex Tape

By shelz.

Braving the snow?  Trying to cut through the wind?  Have miles of ice between you and your job?  Then just say to hell with it.  I’m staying my ass in the house and chilling out with the folks over at Planet Ill.  Cheah.

We have plenty of content to keep you entertained including the weekly look at all things pinched, poached and pillaged in the music world.  Beats you have heard before, lyrics that give you déjà vu and hooks that remind you of a girl that you once knew find a home here. Most of it is new.  Some of it is not, but chances are it’s new to you.  So enjoy.

Before we begin though, there are a couple of things I heard this week I need to share.

First, Method Man does not want to lose a finger in your nappy ass hair.  He said peasy afros and dreads are not the move and you really need to slap some Lustrasilk on that shit pronto.  I can’t help but laugh, but it’s pretty ridiculous that we still have “good” hair and colorism issues these days.  In Meth’s defense, he’s entitled to his preference. We all are.  He still sounds like he’s buddying up to ignorance with this one though.

Also, Rihanna’s video for “S&M” has been banned in 11 countries because people in it are tied up, wearing ball gags, humping blow up dolls and what not.  Perez Hilton, who plays a delivery man on a leash in the vid, says it’s not controversial.  Well, it is and it’s supposed to be.  The ride is tongue and cheek and crafted to make you drop your jaw.  Miss Fenty is making fun of plenty of people, including the press, and I would kill to look that good in latex.  That will be all.

Alrighty people, on with the show.  First up are The Bad Rabbits.

I’m sure I am hella late with this.  I have no idea how old this is because I just found this band today, but the Deftones original “Sextape” is a beautiful song and Bad Rabbits do it justice. I’m not sure if the top of the highest note is in the lead singers comfort zone, but I believe when this guy hits the sweet spot in his range he can probably do some glorious things.

Next is Curtains dropping a few lines over GZA’s “4th Chamber.”  I like dude, he has a fierce sense of humor and his arrogance is well earned. He flips the flow a couple of times while dodging stalkers, popping tags and intimidating folks with his goons and artillery.

Moving on we have Ruby Isle who took “Sweet Child O Mine” and ran it through a synthesizer mill.  The finished product sounds like Muzak with vocals over it; something you would hear while on hold for your dentist.  The disco bridge is almost funny. I am absolutely sure Axel does not approve.

Chip Tha Ripper pops in with “Roll That Weed Bitch” over Travis Porters “Make It Rain.”  Even when Chip adds some aggression to his flow, he still sounds like his eyes are half open.  Chip puffs, but I don’t think he passes, at least not to the broad who rolled it.  Sometimes I can take all the hoes and bitches but they float off this dude’s tongue with a sting.

Next is Peedi Crack over Wayne and Corey Gunz’ “6ft 7ft.”  Peedi sounds like he has adult ADD on this track.  Its double time sometimes, drawing all outside of the lines, but strangely entertaining.  I honestly don’t know what he said becuase I was too busy trying to make sense out of his cadence. He gave a little nod to The Purple Ribbon All-Stars though. Word to that.

Next is Chingy taking over H.A.M. Yes, I said Chingy.  He’s not as bad as people want to act like he is and half those folks dissin’ him probably have a copy of Jackpot hidden somewhere. He addresses the whole tranny thing (devoting way too many bars to it) and claims he put his city on his back.  Wonder what Nellie thinks about that.

Jon Connor is getting a lot of attention right now and in the moment when the lights are the hottest dude is really doing some great work.  He has a good voice and breath control and he’s pretty handy with a pen, plus he has layers. So you don’t have to listen to the same shit every song.  Anyway, he takes over Nicki Minaj’s “Moment 4 Life” here.  Much better than the original.

Last, but not least, is Omarion.  I still fluck with “Touch” so I try not to say bad things about O because he’s provided me with some positive musical moments. Plus he can sing, it’s just his personal life that needs some work.  He dives way back into the vault and dusts off “Come And Talk To Me” by Jodeci.

*Sigh*

He really thought he was channeling K-Ci for a second, didn’t he?  Bless his heart. Til next week folks.
