The best night of my life?  I don’t know.  There was this one time at band camp… But we aren’t here to talk about my nocturnal adventures.  Jamie Foxx has one of his own and he’s brought Wiz Khalifa along for the I-totally-can-get-blunted-and-go-mainstream-at-the-same-time ride.  It’s an odd combo.  I still have a hard time seeing Jamie Foxx as anything but an actor playing a musician and listening to Khalifa rapping about anything but kush is like trying to decipher latin, but stranger things have worked.

Unfortunately, this really doesn’t.

The production is the best thing here. It has a throwback retro soul feel courtesy of the keys and swirling strings.  The piano and baseline are buried, but still give the song some lovely organic elements.  There are plenty of singers who could have laid down some feel good, ooohhh baby baby lyrics over this and done it justice, but Jamie’s lyrical construction here is mother goose after dark.  Seeing her in a thong is the purpose of the song?  What’s wrong?  Ummm, plenty.

It’s new millennium R&B so we know love won’t be included, but this is a pretty far-fetched club pick up line.  Making love to me will be the best night of your life? How’s that for confidence?

Wiz suggests that the chica is trippin’ in his verse, which she should be.  His delivery is probably an attempt at catching the smooth mood of the tune, but he just sounds bored.

This song has a nice flow though, if you’re not really paying attention. It will get a few spins, but it’s far from either Jamie or Wiz’s best.  I think the best night of my life tops this and no, I’m not going to tell you what happened.  Enjoy.
