Young Chris got some heat. He may have missed his moment in the post-Roc era as Meek Millz has that entire region in a stranglehold, streets side. That hasn’t stopped Chris from wreaking havoc on the microphone and hitting the underground scene with heater after heater. His latest, “Philly Shit” is an ode to those blue collar streets and Young Chris leaves no stone unturned in representing all that Philly has to offer.
The beat is possessed of a dynamic instant bump that you don’t have to warm up to hearing. It’s club madness, anthemic in feel and the perfect get hype backdrop. North Philly, Northwest, South Philly, King of Prussia and every hood in the 215 is invited to stand they ass up and get hip. Chris shouts out that red brim with the white P of the Phillies.
Chris gives you that Philadelphia history with nods to EST’s flavor, Schooly D’s gangsta, “Fresh Prince of the city no Carlton in here,” and shout outs to the legendary Roots crew as well as Musiq, Jill Scott and Eve.From there he gets to hollering at those Philly girls and their flavor and big ups the club scene, Onyx and Delilah’s by name, noting the aforementioned Millz and his present hegemony.
In a nutshell, the knock of “Philly Shit” is undeniable and Young Chris has a certified anthem on his hands. Hopefully they will take notice outside the city of brotherly love. Rock to it.
