Newark, New Jersey is hardcore. While its East Coast neighbor NYC is comprised of gleaming skyscrapers and a cash rules mentality, the bricks has always been about survival. Rah Digga is a survivor. Dirty Harriet has persevered through many moons in this Hip-Hop world, toiling for years as the distaff member of Busta’s Flipmode Squad, and serving as ancillary member of the Outsiderz. Rah Digga ain’t just a pretty face and some curves, she will straight up roast you on the mic. She brings fellow Brick City masher Redman for the knockdown, drag-out remix single appropriately titled, “This Ain’t No Little Kid Rap”.
The track finds Red and Rah scoffing at the idea that they, or anyone for that matter could be too old to rap. After summarily dismissing that, they get right into over pulsing drums with Digga rhyming for her life with lines like “whole crowds waiting for my shit like porta potties.” her timing and delivery are laser sharp and to her credit she rhymes as an emcee, not like a Bonnie to a Clyde but as a sovereign emcee with her own nails to hammer. Digga “makes music with her mouth like Biz or Rahzel” with no concern as to how she’ll be taken.
Reggie Noble is his usual self with a slew of hard hitting punch lines driven with charisma; each building with intensity to the final laugher of the stanza(you never work like project intercoms). While funnier, his verse lacks the continuity of Rah’s but together they make a suitable pair on the microphone.The beat is tough but simple with a spare guitar, a pounding bottom and punctuating cymbals for accent.
While so many are content with Lauryn Hill lament, there are serious rappers like Rah Digga who consistently represent. They rhyme with intent possessing the skills to pay the rent, and if they only had our collective ears we’d have more of them to present. In the meantime, whatever Rah Digga has to say could never be no little kid rap. Enjoy.
