Ritchie “Rich Kidd” Acheampong has been chasing his rap dreams since age 14, when he helmed the five-man collective the Rotten Onez. When those group dreams faded, he decided to go hard on his own and began dropping solo mixtapes.  Not satisfied with being behind the mic, he got a copy of Fruity Loops and slowly began increasing his skill behind the boards, using that combination of skills to push himself forward in Canadian Hip-Hop.

Rich Kidd’s head banging production has graced the tracks of a wide range of MC’s,blessing his Mississauga friends like Junia-T, and other local MCs like Richie Sosa, KB, Aristo, Tona, Rochester, Reign, Coyote, Trench, Cali Snipes, Frankie Payne, and many other rising independent artists. It wasn’t long before Rich Kidd beats were hot properties. Numerous artists like Drake, Kardinal Offishall, Saukrates, Bishop Brigante, Ill Bill, Raekwon, Cutty Ranks, Busta, and Billy Danze and Sizzla sought out Rich Kidd for bangers.

But as we all know, it ain’t easy coming out of the great white North when it comes to Hip-Hop, particularly as a rapper and Rich Kidd is the latest rapper trying to stomp is boots against the ice floor that separates Canada from the big time. We caught up to Rich Kidd and asked him about his attempt, and whether he felt he was up to the challenge of taking it to the next level. Kid’s got a bit of moxie, I’ll give him that. We’ll see if the music and the hustle are sufficient to get through.  Enjoy.
