Planet Ill took a break from Dance Dance Revolution for a minute.  The recuperation period after Flesh Tone was longer than we anticipated, but we are back because we are soldiers… umm.. with glow sticks. Next up on our dance ticket is Stromae.  No I have never heard of him, but he has Kanye West and Gilbert Forte on a track, so he’s cool with me.

“Alors On Danse (So We Dance)” was released last year with Stromae rapping in French, which by the way, is a brutal language on the mic. The Europeans loved it, carrying it to #1 on the charts in several countries.  I guess now Mr. Stromae has his sights set on the American market, and no time better than the present with Saturday Night Fever Redux going on and all. So he removed the fe fe and the oui oui, gave Mr. West and Mr. Forte some empty space toget busy to and voila, he might just have himself a readymade hit on his hands.  Hell, it isn’t any worse than the rest of this dance stuff folks have been dropping.

It’s old school house with an A Guy Called Gerald feel to it. Thump and synth welcome you to the song with a Stromae’s looped voice singing the title picking up the rear.  It’s a mid-tempo piece, not one of those cardio specials that can send folks home stinky.  The errant saxophone layers on the melody right before Kayne jumps in. His verse is simple.  He doesn’t paint outside the lines with this one.  Folks speaking negatively don’t change the fact that he kills shows and can afford expensive champagne.  It’s nothing we haven’t heard before.

Gilbert Forte brings up the rear with some bars and lots of allegory about getting his career going.  It’s not his best, but he’s a nice addition anyway.

Manly men will whine about this song as they do with any tune not deemed masculine enough for their testosterone-driven ears.  Everybody else who likes to have a good time on the dance floor should appreciate this.  It’s not G.O.O.D., but its close enough.
