I can’t say I’m big on vampires. As a matter of fact, I don’t think I’ve ever watched a vampire movie. However, I do like good music and this soundtrack for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is filled with some dope sounds. Before getting into the whole thing I assumed the nature would be dark, since the movie is all blood and death. First up on the breakdown docket did not make a liar out of me.
“Chop and Change” by The Black Keys is a bit heavier than their normal fare. It’s still riding with the rock/blues styling but this song is eerie in its tone. The off and on thump is as ominous as the guitar chords. The organ gives the song fullness while the somewhat random piano pounding adds a creepy touch. The feedback along with the female vocalist put the cherry on top of the murky cake.
Auerbachs’ muddy vocals are in full force as he gets into a narrative about a sweet girl turned criminal lady loner who rides the rails, hitches dark roads and steals cars to get to the next destination as she masters a loveless kind of life.
I wasn’t a huge fan of The Black Keys most recent offering, Brothers, but this my friend is down home delta dopeness with just the right amount of digital updating. If the movie is as good as the soundtrack is shaping up to be, I might just have to get my first helping of Twilight.
