What’s up Planet Ill family!
It’s time again for another session of Indiesent Exposure, Planet Ill’s weekly music column where I drop some FREE quality music downloads & info about quality Independent Music artists of different genres who deserve props for keeping things lively & non-cookie cutter status in the music world.
HopefullyIndiesent Exposure will give your ears some respite from some of the daily audio wackness, boredom and/or iCoonery that bombards the masses through the mainstream radio.
If you like what you hear & download (some joints of which will hopefully be new to folks), PLEASE support (monetarily and otherwise) these artists as much as you can in the future – hit up their websites, purchase some product, go to their shows, etc.
This week’s summertime Indiesent Exposure music selections consist of Hip-Hop, Rock, Funk and Electronica treats to jam to.
When you have the chance, please let all of the talented Indiesent Exposure artists and the Planet Ill crew know what you think of the music in our comments section!
Let’s get into it – download, sit back relax – hope you enjoy everything:
Philadelphia and Phoenix, AZ representative Random (a.k.a. Mega Ran a.k.a Random Beats) has been putting in some serious high quality work over the past decade as a teacher (literally – currently teaches middle school), independent music producer and Hip-Hop MC.
With a lively, passionate yet straight forward delivery, with lyrics & flow that’s been skillfully honed to steady perfection, Random lives up to his namesake – his subject matter goes all over the place to appeal to the average man to other extremes.
Random’s selection of foundation sounds to craft unique and fun audio compositions is also eclectic – 8-bit video game sounds (his ongoing “Mega Ran” series ONLY sampled such sounds from the long lasting Mega Man series from Capcom to REALLY great effect), soul music samples, soundtrack sounds, etc. are all in the creative stew.
One of the better introductions into his work for those not familiar with his previous or current music catalog as an MC or man behind the boards is on display with the TeacherRapperHero: The Random Mixtape.
The mix of Random & fellow guests original production, industry beats and guests on the mic (including Mickey Factz, 88-Keys and more) goes along at a rollicking clip with DJ DN3′s mix skills moving things along well.
For all of the heads who are tired of the same ol’ business in any aspect of the Hip-Hop realm – from Thuggery 101 Trapper Not Rapper Types to Uptight Over Super Lyricial Underground MCs – and dry copycat production, Random’s work is a slice of fresh air that anyone can get into the vibe of for the head nod and party experience this summer and beyond.
Check out more of what’s good in Random’s world of music and other goodness over at his official website, http://www.MegaRan.com.

Congratulations to our folks over at the URB ALT collective – they’re celebrating their 5th anniversary of being a quality resource of finding out what’s happening with the international Black Rock/Black Alternative creative music & arts scenes (and they throw some pretty sweet events as well).
As a part of their URB ALT 2010 Music Festival that’s happening in the New York & DC Metropolitan areas over the next few weeks, they’ve recently dropped the third of their FREE compilations of eclectic music acts.
None of the dope Rock, Soul, Funk, Electronica, Metal and Experimental goodies on the 17 track collection are TOO far out there to not be enjoyable – you can at least head nod, dance or zone out sans drugs of the legal or illegal kind to mostly everything on there.
All of the acts have their websites on the cover of the URB ALT sampler and below, so if you dig what’s on the comp, reach out to them and do whatever’s good to support!
