Free99: Busgy-Long Time Coming

By Odeisel

It’s been a long time coming, but a change gone come. We’ve heard that before, in song and in spirit; the ralling cry of those who are pushing for change but haven’t reaped what they’ve been sowing for so long. The music industry is brutal and you can sow as many seeds as you like and add water and use the industry bullshit as fertilizer but that’s no guarantee you will enjoy the fruits of your labor.

San Antonio’s own Bugsy has been sowing for a while through the fields of the shift from physical mixtapes to downloads, from the “hot” city shifts that seem to happen ever couple years, and through the rapidly shifting audience taste changes that go  with Hip-Hop like Big Macs and big guts.  Being from San Antonio and repping for a city un repped on a mass scale doesn’t help in gaining momentum.

Bloody but unbowed Bugsy delivers his latest salvo in his attempt to harvest with his new mixtape  Long Time Coming.  Aside from his lead single/video “Hometown” there is enough on this tape for you to get a clear idea of what he’s about over both original production and familiar hot beats. Here it is for you, Free99, A Long Time Coming.  Enjoy.

  1. I kept seeing this Cat’s name on Allhiphop.com….besides his Video, i hadnt Heard any music from him. I live in Jersey, but im originally from Austin, TX, so i try to stay up on my Up and coming Tx Artists. I downloaded this with mild Expectations(considering i had not heard any of his music prior), and sadly, it was EHH. Theres a few Standouts where his flow sounds relaxed and is listenable on those songs, but overall his tone is mostly inaudible and whiny. Its sub Par in my opinion…Hopefully he’ll step it up next go round.

  2. I would agree with you. I think that if he addresses his flaws he could have legs. He has passion but he’s actually a better rapper when he lays back and lowers his voice. I think he did a solid job on this tape of attempting to hide his flaws. He doesn’t excite you but he doesn’t make you go fuck this I’m shutting this off. I wish him luck

  3. cat is nice
    i hear the criticism
But hiphop was saying the same about Wale when he first came out
    The south got some talent
    Lyrically he nice
