Good morning and welcome to the latest edition of the sickest Sunday on the net. It’s a warm and sunny day in New York, but we’re going all around the world with our picks this week. The focus this week will be a bit on the bars.  There will be some very ill verses in this episode which brings you the return of Canibus and Keith Murray, Crooked I back on the streets and away from the Slaughterhouse and a few more joints.  Without further ado, let’s get to the music.

Buckshot & Sean P- “The Feeling”

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

This heater from the upcoming Black Dynamite blacksploitation parody delivers some rough music loosley inspired by the film.  Don’t get it confused as the  “You Don’t Know”-ish beat replete with organs  gives cavernous room for these two veteran MC’s to go to work.  While it’s a head nodder, there aren’t many OMG moments lyrically, but its a solid performance that elevates the track above normal sountrack fodder.  Solid

The Undergods- “Show ‘Em What Crazy Is”

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

What do you get when two of the most off beat grimey lyricists ever combine for an EP?  You get an admittedly mixed bag as their individual stylistic identity doesn’t always mesh, but on this particular song they both devour this track.  They pass the mic back and forth for a couple rounds  EPMD style and exert themselves individually while neither gets blown away by the other. Solid.

Burnz Feat. Crooked I- “Clap Back”

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Rapper Burnz gets blown off this track by the West Coast Slaughterhouse representer.  Crooked delivers bar after bar of lyrics delivered with all that traditional bravado you’re used to. Well rhymed and well sequenced.  Burnz isn’t bad, per se, but he’s clearly not in the same weight class.  Although the two rappers give an unbalanced level of quality, this song is cool.  Not a loss by any means.

Concise Kilgore Feat. Evidence, Guilty Simpson & DJ Revolution- “Teknoir”

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

The beat is techno, yet sinister. The hook is scratched to death by DJ Revolution. The only thing left is for the rappers to deliver. For the most part they do. Concise and Evidence sound a bit similar in voice but they are both lyrically competent and good enough to rock out on this one.  The highlight of course is Detroit’s hungriest Guilty Simpson batting cleanup. His voice is heavy and matches the evil of the beat and his deliberate slow flow is Michael Myers slowly walking it down. Whenever you feel like he’s off, he’s at your throat. Dope!

Cormega- “Make It Clear”

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Cormega returns to the field on the back of a laid-back feathery Primo track. While I’m not a real fan of his delivery, I always applaud Cormega’s authenticity. There are times when he doesn’t flow quite close enough to the beat but it’s a good song.  Mega does enough to get it in and the track rides.

****THROWBACK****

Kool G Rap- “Wanted Dead or Alive”

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Many people automatically defer to Kane and Rakim, but pound for pound, the Kool Genius was a terror.  In this particular song, he delivers rapid-fire malevolence on a high-powered beat.  Light on profanity, high on skill, and fierce in delivery.  Sit back, relax, and remember a time when you didn’t have to say n****r and curse all over the track to project the hardcore real.

In case you missed it, we had a pretty cool week on Planet Ill.  We had a one on one with Skyzoo, whose album The Salvation finally dropped. We took a look at who was pointing fingers during the Derrion Albert tragedy.  From there we saw the return of Dru Hill and Next at the 80’s Babies concert.  Then we hit you with Indiesent Exposure and an abundance of underground and independent jams and a free mixtape.  Keep tuning in to Planet Ill as we continue to bring you flavor.  Your world, your way.
