NFL WEEK 5: Crabtree Signs, Braylon Bounced, Chargers Scolded
Well this week, your old boy, the Rowdy One, is on vacation with Mrs. Rowdy One. But just because I’m chillin with the family down in North Carolina, eating that good BBQ, it doesn’t mean I’m not paying attention to the Week 05 match-ups and haven’t stayed up-to-date with NFL news. Speaking of NFL news, this week has been a busy one and I have a few questions for you:
First, how many of you dropped your jaw when you woke up and heard that 1st round draft pick and hold-out, Michael Crabtree, finally signed with the San Francisco 49ers?
Look, Crabtree had to sign now if had any plans to make any contribution to the Niners this season. He won’t start, and with reports saying that he’ll be activated after the Niners’ bye week, he should have enough time to get familiar with the Niners’ playbook. Only time will tell how good he will be, but it is good to have him with the team and hopefully both sides can put this behind them and win some games.
Secondly, how many of you dropped your jaw again when you heard that the Cleveland Browns traded Braylon Edwards to the New York Jets?
Let’s face it; Braylon Edwards wasn’t happy in Cleveland. Anyone who drops as many passes as he has in the past few years, just doesn’t give a sh*t about the team. You could say, “Well, it’s a mental thing.” And you’re right; he mentally didn’t care about the team because he wasn’t happy there. Plus, you’re not gonna start some mess with a friend of King James and think you’re gonna stay in Cleveland. Oh no, don’t you believe it. Coach Mangini and the Browns organization had enough of his shenanigans and ran him out of town. And if Edwards thinks he can keep pulling that mess as a member of the New York Jets, with Rex Ryan at the helm, he has another thing coming. Let’s not forget who’s Rex’s daddy is and so far this year, he has shown that the apple does not fall from the tree.
For the Jets, this trade worked out well for them because if Edwards can stay focused and not be “Mr. Dropsies”, he can make big plays down the field, on some long passes. That’ll help the run game and it will help QB Mark Sanchez since he’s a big target in the passing game. If Braylon gets it together, the Jets have a strong chance of winning the AFC East and making some noise in the playoffs. However, what I said earlier about Crabtree can be applied here as well about Edwards, only time will tell.
Finally, do you think San Diego Chargers GM, A.J. Smith was wrong for calling out his team?
I hear what Herm Edwards is saying, I also hear what Chargers LB Shawne Merriman is saying, but A.J. Smith is the G.M. and he’s responsible for bringing this team together. He signs the players with the expectation that the team is ready to win games and make it to playoffs and on to the Super Bowl. He has every right to make any statement he wants to make because he’s responsible for bringing most of that talent on that time such as QB Philip Rivers and the aforementioned Merriman.
Therefore, Coach Herm and Mr. Merriman, let him off the hook. And as for you Mr. Merriman, if you’re not happy with Mr. Smith voicing his opinion then give him a reason not to by turning that 2-2 record into a winning, playoff bound record.
Now that I got that off of my chest, let’s look at my picks for Week 05 in the NFL.
